Generation 1 – Kanto Region
1.  (i love this little blob of goo)
2.  (bulbasaur is one of those starters where i can never bring myself to choose the other two starters. i just love bulbasaur too much. sorry charmander and squirtle. i like how bulbasaur and co. feel more chill and slow than the other gen 1 starters, but can still Fight when it comes down to it)
3.  (I LOVE THESE ORBS they're so weird and so good)
4.  (i'm honestly not sure why i love paras and parasect. i guess paras is cute in a weird way and parasect is weird and kinda creepy and i love it)
5.  (I LOVE THESE EGGS...... idk why i just find exeggcute very entertaining. and exeggutor is silly and weird and amazing (and its alolan form is the best thing to ever grace my unworthy eyes))

(honourable mentions: machamp, farfetch'd, muk, shellder, drowzee and hypno, porygon (who i would have put here but one of its evolutions is gonna show up here so), mew, mewtwo)

Generation 2 – Johto Region
1.  (porygon's evolution line is one of my absolute faves. i love the concept of digital pokémon that technologically improve as they evolve (and then tragically become corrupted as a porygon-z). porygon2 is probably my favourite of the three)
2.  (blissey is a good egg. i trust her)
3.  (LEDYBA IS SO CUTE!!!!!! i cry whenever i see one. ledian is pretty great too!)
4.  (i love dunsparce because of how silly it is. it's cowardly and shy and just hangs out in dark caves all day, it's really rare and it's not the sharpest tool in the shed, its wings only let it slightly hover off the ground... i love dunsparce. i support them)
5.  (unown is so mysterious and weird. what even is unown's deal? what connection do they have to ~pokémon lore~ and all that? i love the mystery surrounding them. i wish they were a bit stronger so i could actually use one on a team, but oh well. i'll just admire them from a distance!)

(honourable mentions: natu and xatu, sudowoodo, wobbuffet, hitmontop, smoochum, celebi, qwilfish... i love so many gen 2 pokémon i'm crying)

Generation 3 – Hoenn Region
1.  (i love deoxys for a similar reason to why i love unown. it's so weird and mysterious! and intimidating and cool and just... alien! which makes sense, considering it is an alien and all. what the hell was the space virus that deoxys mutated from? where did that laser beam come from that mutated the space virus?? how exactly did all of these space virus laser beam mutating shenanigans lead to the creation of deoxys????? who fuckin knows mate. i love how little we actually know about deoxys. and i also find great enjoyment in its petty-ass rivalry with rayquaza. those two are always butting heads in many different forms of pokémon media and i find it hilarious. also its battle music is 👌👌👌👌👌👌 A+)
2.  (plusle and minun are so cute!!!!!!!!!! and there's a bit of nostalgia going on with this choice, because plusle and minun are pokémon that have been with me through every hoenn playthrough i've ever done. when i was a kid playing emerald, i had both plusle and minun on my team. when i replayed ruby a few years ago, i had a minun on my team. and when i played alpha sapphire, i had a plusle named dedede on my team. when i play omega ruby someday, i'm definitely gonna use a minun named meta knight... i very much look forward to that)
3.  (rayquaza's just cool as hell, man. this is another childhood favourite – rayquaza was the only reason i managed to beat the emerald elite four as a kid lmao)
4.  (i love shedinja because it's weird, interesting, and unique. i love the concept behind it, i find its ability and its HP stat of 1 to be interesting... also i guess it's technically the only genderless pokémon to evolve from a pokémon that has a gender, so that's pretty interesting too)
5.  (who doesn't love some metallic, incredibly intelligent, amazingly strong super computers? also, for some reason, i find these three to be pretty cute. i mean, i guess i can understand that for beldum and metang... but i'm probably the only person in the world to describe metagross as "cute" lmao)

(honourable mentions: treecko / grovyle / sceptile, gardevoir, whismur, wailord, jirachi, and tons of others that i casually like but aren't like "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH", you know?)

Generation 4 – Sinnoh Region
1.  (oh look, i love a pokémon because it's weird. what a surprise. seriously though, i find giratina to be really interesting and cool! its backstory of being banished to the distortion world is interesting, the distortion world itself is so wonderful and memorable – you chose a good place to dump your bastard child, arceus. also, kinda fucked up that in most of the sinnoh myths, giratina's just. left out of them. like no-one acknowledged its existence for some reason. probably because of the "violence" it was banished for... see what i mean when i say that giratina is interesting? i think i like its origin forme more than its altered forme. also i fucking love its battle music as well)
2.  (i just... love roserade's design. it's so cool and elegant and stuff... there isn't really much more to say on that. one random thing though – a lot of people seem to view roserade as a more feminine-looking design, but i've always viewed it as a more masculine-looking design... i guess kinda like tuxedo mask from sailor moon (i hope i got that name right because i know nothing about sailor moon haha...) i hope you get what i mean???)
3.  (arceus has a lot of interesting lore stuff like giratina! i like how it looks both powerful & intimidating... and elegant & careful. like, it's not just gonna go on a murderous rampage and destroy the world it created just because it's super powerful. it has more self-control than that. it'll just judge you from afar and generally stay out of everyone's business, and if you betray its trust or hurt it in some way then that's when you're gonna get fuckin  d e s t r o y e d .  all hail the llama god)
4.  (turtwig is my baby and i will protect it. and i probably like torterra for a similar reason to why i like venusaur – it's chill and slow and probably likes to relax in a forest and let bird and bug pokémon hang out in its tree... and then when it comes to fighting it will Protect its forest friends. grotle would be here too, but... i like turtwig and torterra significantly more. sorry, grotle!)

5.  (croagunk has so much personality and i love it. such a weird frog. and toxicroak is super cool and has tons of personality too. i love the grin on these two's faces. they know what's up)

(honourable mentions: bidoof and bibarel, magnezone, lickilicky, togekiss, porygon-z, gallade, darkrai, shaymin, gastrodon, drifloon, bonsly... i love so many gen 4 pokémon too i'm crying again)

Generation 5 – Unova Region

1.  (TYNAMO!!!!! IS!!!!! SO!!!!! CUTE!!!!!!!!! IT'S SO TINY!!!!!!!! AAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!! i love eelektrik and eelektross too, but i feel like tynamo deserves its own spot)
2.  (i love these aliens. they're so cool. and i just really like their designs. i'm not really sure what else to say)
3.  (GOOD GARBAGE!!!! trubbish is really cute and garbodor is pretty much me in pokémon form lmao. i live for weird designs like this. what's that? trubbish and garbodor are two of the least popular pokémon of all time? i don't fucking care. give every trubbish and garbodor in the world to me if you have to. i will give them all a home. i will love them like the garbage children that they are. i will treat them well)
4.  (stunfisk is so funny. honestly, it probably is one of the funniest pokémon ever made. a few reasons as to why that is: it just being really flat, that face it makes when it shocks people, just its face in general really, the fact that its in-game cry is literally a farting sound, this pokédex entry: "When its opponent can't be paralysed, it contorts itself with unexpected speed and flops away."... stunfisk is objectively the best pokémon and i will fight you all on this)

5.  (archen is so cute!!!!! in a weird way of course. i love its cry too)

(honourable mentions: tepig / pignite / emboar, lillipup / herdier / stoutland, audino, sawk and throh, darumaka / darmanitan, yamask / cofagrigus, vanillite / vanillish / vanilluxe, vullaby / mandibuzz, seismitoad, meloetta, genesect... *cries about how much i love pokémon*)

Generation 6 – Kalos Region

1.  (sylveon is so cute and sweet!!!!! but i'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. sylveon is a fan favourite for a reason!)
2.  (i fell in love with yveltal the moment i first saw it in that early x and y trailer... n-not literally, of course. that would be r-ridiculous hahaha *quickly and clumsily hides a bunch of pictures of yveltal by shoving them under my bed* but seriously though, i loved its design from the moment i first saw it! it's so cool and i love how it's actually shaped like a Y! i love this bacon bird)
3.  (back when x and y were new, i was originally gonna choose chespin... but then i saw greninja and instantly switched to froakie. i love chesnaught too but greninja is just really amazing!!!!! again, i probably don't need to tell you that haha)
4.  (these guys are so weird i love it. i probably like binacle a little bit more. they look like they're like roommates that are constantly annoyed with each other and bicker over the smallest things but still love each other in the end. i love the grumpy faces on these two pokémon. i love these ugly barnacles)
5.  (i'm not really sure why i like zygarde. it's just... cool. i like its hexagon motif a lot. i probably like 50% zygarde the most)

Generation 7 – Alola Region

1.  (guess why i love type: null and silvally. just take a wild fucking guess. yep, you got it, they're weird and interesting! i love them being man-made, synthetic pokémon, i love them being made of all sorts of different parts in order to be the  u l t i m a t e  b e a s t  k i l l e r ,  i love how they actually failed that purpose and, as a result, were essentially deemed "null" by the aether foundation, and how gladion took one of the foundation's type: nulls and escaped with it and all that backstory stuff... i love how type: null evolves through high friendship!!!!!! that's so good!!!!!!! like they reach their full potential through ~love and stuff~ and they couldn't achieve that while they were at the aether foundation... i love silvally's connections to arceus (particularly, its ability), implying that the aether foundation were trying to create a synthetic replica of the literal creator of the pokémon world??????? like that's so interesting!!!!!!! i'm yelling!!!!!!!!!! thank you game freak for this gift)
2.  (minior's another one that i fell in love with upon first sight. it's a little meteor thing!!!!! that's so neat!!!!! but i feel like i was in the minority in that i already loved it upon seeing its meteor form, and then continued to love it upon seeing its core form... i love both forms equally!)
3.  (the chespin –> froakie thing happened again in gen 7. originally, i was going to choose rowlet... and then i saw brionne and primarina and switched to popplio. i love primarina so much!!!! it's so pretty and elegant... such a nice design. (though of course decidueye and incineroar are great too!) and i'm glad they didn't change the mostly-male gender ratio that's shared by all starters. i love my beautiful boy and i wouldn't have him any other way)
4.  (another fan favourite! and for good reason! mimikyu is so good. it's cute and silly and relatable and a little bit scary... and it's always neat to see game freak acknowledge pikachu's immense popularity. i can understand mimikyu getting jealous about that! it's also neat to imagine what's under mimikyu's cloth... i like to imagine that it's something really horrifying and grotesque, that pretty much everyone would be scared of)
5.  (dhelmise is such a cool design!!! i was internally yelling when i first saw it (in acerola's elite four battle). i love the compass that looks like an eye, i love the combination of the seaweed and the bottom of the anchor looking like sharp teeth... the fact that the seaweed is its actual body is really cool! and i like how it looks all broken and damaged, and it's cool how its ability essentially gives it STAB for steel-type moves!)

(honourable mentions: rowlet, cutiefly / ribombee, stufful / bewear, pyukumuku, tapu koko, cosmog, xurkitree, guzzlord... i love gen 7 so much)
